CAPEMAY LEWESFERRY

In 1964 the capemay lewesferry lauched its operation. This was made possible by the building of the Chesapeak Bay Bridge Tunnel. The Ferry’s that were used prior to the building of the bridge were then sold to the Capemay Lewes Ferry. Today there is a fleet of 6.

The Ferry provides passage from Capemay, NJ across the Delaware Bay to Lewes, Delaware, and back again. The actual ride is 17 miles long and takes approximately 70 minutes to arrival.

Boarding the ferry is easy if you follow directions closely. There are employee’s who assist with the loading of the vehicles into the garage area of the ferry. Once you are parked you may stay in your car in the parking area or you may elect to go up on deck and enjoy the ride with sights of bottle nose dolphins, pelicans, and other sea birds.

There is a snack bar, restrooms, and a novelty shop on board. You will meet many people from many places. It is a nice break to take the ferry and relax for awhile instead of riding the highway through Delaware into New Jersey. It makes a nice memory for an added attraction while on a family vacation as well.
